WiSE Outreach provides opportunities for WiSE members to engage with the public, such as visiting local K-12 schools or conducting lab tours on UCSC campus. Our primary goals are to encourage students to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and to teach them about career options in STEM fields.

Our volunteers bring hands-on learning to classrooms in the Monterey Bay area, including E.A. Hall Middle School, Elkhorn Elementary, and Sacred Heart. Come join as we have fun with liquid nitrogen, model rock cycles, and extract strawberry DNA. We provide the training, we just need your enthusiasm for science!

Help us judge science fairs at the local schools. It is a great opportunity for kids to interact with real scientists and is a rewarding experience. We have also helped judge the Santa Cruz County Science fair and are always in need of extra hands.

Join us for full days of science activities with students and community members.  The annual Expanding Your Horizons event is among the most fun and exciting for which WiSE volunteers.  We also help with the similar Science Alive! program targeted to all elementary schoolers interested in math, science, and technology.

Our newest program is Science Impacting Society, a twice quarterly Saturday program engaging kids in cool science and technology projects that impact society. We have a dedicated outreach coordinator to assist with this program.

We welcome volunteers from all STEM fields (undergraduates, graduate students, post-graduates, post-docs, technicians, professionals, professors, etc.). Check our calendar for outreach events, and join  the mailing list for calls for volunteers.
